Short bio

David D.J. Roy is a Canadian stand-up comedian, storyteller, spoken word artist, actor, and booker. He came up in Vancouver — founding and hosting That Filthy Show, a long-time fixture at the Vancouver Poetry Slam — and turns personal history — adult-film work, homelessness, hitchhiking — into dark-and-light stage stories. Independent film credits include No Joke (2013), The Vancouver B Movie Factory (2013), and Show Cop (2015).

Long bio

David D.J. Roy is a Canadian stand-up comedian, storyteller, spoken word artist, actor, and performer/choreographer. He books and organizes comedy, and came up as a long-time fixture in the Vancouver arts scene.

He has been a regular at the Vancouver Poetry Slam, delivering raw, acclaimed open-mic spoken word — including Homelessness, Feminism?, and Just a Job. He founded and hosted That Filthy Show, a comedy and variety night that made room for both dark and light storytelling.

As a performer and choreographer with the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival, and through Behind the Smut — a one-man storytelling event about his years in the adult film industry, with the floor open for questions — he has made a practice of talking about intense, personal material in public.

Independent and short-film credits include No Joke (2013), The Vancouver B Movie Factory (2013), and Show Cop (2015).

The pitch

Raw rooms. Real stories.

Just a Job · Vancouver Poetry Slam

Bookers get a comic who can open, host, or close — and a show-runner who already stacks lineups. Casting gets a storyteller with camera credits and a face that reads live: cap, mic, no varnish.

The material is personal on purpose: adult-film work, homelessness, hitchhiking, feminism, the job that was never just a job. That is the brand. Rooms that want safe and forgettable should book someone else.

Watch Homelessness if you need proof he can hold a silent room. Watch the That Filthy Show feature if you need a host who built his own night.
